Kitchen Hood Fire Suppression Systems are used to extinguish fires in a commercial kitchens. It is a fixed, Wet Chemical System designed to extinguish fires in the Duct, Plenum and on the Appliances within a restaurant. Wet chemical Systems have taken over for older Dry Chemical systems which are no longer allowed by code. The main reason for this is the introduction of the new high temperature fryers could not be extinguished by Dry Chemical Systems, as the high heat just resulted in reignition after the Dry Chemical was expended. The Wet chemical Systems on the other hand perform better extinguishment by doing a few things the Dry Chemical Systems could not do;
All Wet Chemical Suppression Systems function the same, the spray a suppression agent (Pottasium Acatate Solution) onto the Appliances, inside the Plenum chamber, and up inside the Exhaust Duct. The Wet Chemical solution extinguishes the fire by;
Kitchen Hood Wet Chemical Fire Suppression Systems are sold as a Pre-engineered system type as defined in NFPA-17A, Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishment Systems, which means they will perform as intended as long as they are installed in strict accordance with the Manufacturer's Instructions and by an Authorized Agent. They must also have been tested and listed to UL300 - Standard for Fire Extinguishing Systems For Protection of Restaurant Cooking Areas. System agent cylinders bearing the Underwriters Laboratories of Canada, Inc. ULC mark also meet Underwriters Laboratories of Canada's Standard ULC/ORD-C1254.6-1995. |
